Oldham Sign Korey For Midfield

Oldham have secured the signature of released Norwich midfielder Korey Smith.

The 22 year old will officially sign a two year contract on July 1st.

Smith obviously spent a 10 game loan spell with us at the end of last season and no doubt working with Lee Johnson previously helped him make up his mind as there were a number of clubs interested in his capture.

Speaking to the Official Site Lee Johnson said of the midfielder.

'If we had not courted Korey properly he would have gone elsewhere. It's a classic example of putting in the effort to get a player of his quality. I always believed we would get him because it is the right move for him. Korey knows how highly I rate him and I always trust him on the field.'

Johnson says he's spent the summer talking to the player as he knew he wanted to get him on a permanent deal, and that in his loan spell here he feels he only had one bad 45 minute spell.

Johnson also says he knows Korey will be committed for the coming season because financially he did have better offers elsewhere, but that stands to his character that it wasn't his prime motivator.
