It Was An Honour To Be Shortlisted
Christian Montano lost out to Robin van Persie in the Goal of the Year category at the North West Football Awards last night.
Montano made it into the final shortlisted six on the night and found himself up against van Persie, Sergio Aguero, Daniel Sturridge and Leighton Baines.
Obviously there was somebody else but I have no idea who.
Speaking to the Official Site after seeing his strike against Stevenage lose out to van Persie's effort against Aston Villa, the player said humbly.
'It was an hour to be shortlisted and a great experience to attend the dinner. I couldn't believe it when the manager told me I had been shortlisted, especially alongside a lot of big name Premier League strikers.'
Montano adds given the level of competition he was up against he didn't expect to win the Award, but he'll take a lot from being nominated nonetheless.
He does joke though, that if Lionel Messi had scored the goal he did, it'd have probably won.
Oldham were represented a second time in the Awards by departed player Jose Baxter who was up for League One Player of the Year following his exploits for us before leaving for Sheffield United.
He however lost out to Preston North End's John Welsh on the night.
