Patience Is A Virtue For Johnson

Manager Lee Johnson - celebrating his birthday today - has said that patience is required this summer as he bids to attract the right sort of player to the club to see us improve and have a far more successful season than last year.

Having seen James Wesolowski leave yesterday, and having already added 24 year old Joseph Mills to our ranks, Johnson has said that the longer the summer goes on, the easier it will be to reach agreement with players.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer explained.

'Originally you get high wage demands from people you get in contact with but as time goes on, wives start panicking and people have spent too much money on holiday, so they want to know where they're going on July 1st to start pre season training. Price and wage demands start then to become a bit realistic but I'm pleased with the work going on behind the scenes and we're confident of getting the six or seven players required to take us to a different level.'

With Mills effectively replacing the departed Jonathan Grounds, Johnson goes on to say that he made no secret of the fact that he wanted to bring Mills back following his loan spell, and he was always keen on doing that permanently as opposed to simply another loan deal, and he had been in discussions with both Mills' agent, and Burnley over a deal for about six months so he was delighted when that came to fruition.

Whether Grounds and Wesolowski will be the only departures in reality this summer, Johnson was quick to point out that although Oldham are viewed as a selling club, the players who do have 'decent sized clubs' sniffing around them, are all on good contracts so if they do leave, which he doesn't want them to, it will be for a fee that benefits the club in the future.
