Johnson Delighted With Newcastle Victory

Manager Lee Johnson has said he was delighted with the performance of the lads in last night's two one victory over Premier League Newcastle United.

Second half goals from Timothee Dieng and William Gros gave us the unexpected win, especially as we had gone behind to them after only 14 minutes, but speaking to the Official Site following full time, Johnson thought it was a sign of things to come in terms of what we are capable of if we can now match this with consistency.

'I was pleased with the performance. Obviously it was a great goal from them and sometimes you've got to hold your hands up and concede that it was a superb strike but our substitutes came on and looked energetic and bright. We scored two fantastic goals on the back of that so there is a lot of positivity moving into the new season. I was delighted with the result because it shows that the group is fit, mobile and pacy for our level and there is a lot of positive signs.'

Of course it was Dieng's first goal for us, on his debut, after signing on Monday and Johnson had specific praise for his showing once he got on the pitch, adding.

'He's a great kid and he's got a lovely attitude. He really wants to come and do well and you could see he's nice and smooth on the ball. He's very athletic and you could see that with the way he took his goal.'
