'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Melbourne Manager Preview

Manager Lee Johnson has previewed our encounter tomorrow against Melbourne City.

The Manchester City linked club are in the UK at City's Carrington training facility for a little mini tour, and we host them at Boundary Park on Saturday and we will no doubt be looking to extend our unbeaten run to three matches following on from the victory over Newcastle United last Tuesday.

Melbourne are an unknown quantity really, but they do have in their ranks former Premier League and international midfielder Damien Duff, and obviously with the City link, they have also shelled out on a certain Spanish forward called David Villa this summer - but he won't be joining them until October so we don't have to worry about him.

The Australian side have already played one game in the UK, a two all draw with Bury a few days back, so it should be an interesting and different challenge for the lads as we continue our preparations ahead of the coming campaign.

Speaking about this match, following the Newcastle one, Johnson told the Official Site that he hadn't yet had chance to review video footage of their game against Bury, but it was something he was going to do.

'It's a funny one because I'm not sure of their level. I think it's around League One/Championship but I'm not sure. It's a bit of the unknown and that's good because it means that people have to adjust and have to think on their feet.'

There is certainly that element to it, the modern game is full of scouting reports and assessments on opponents and things they are likely to do, and whilst it obviously helps preparations you wonder how much you can predict in a game - so having an opponent that at best maybe you've got one game to judge them on, will be a great test for the boys and for Johnson himself as he may well have to tinker from the sidelines in a far different way than he normally would.
