Latics Found Lacking

Danny Wilson`s side got off to the better start after his Sheffield United side easily beat Oldham 2-0 at Boundary Park on Saturday.

Goals from young defender Harry Maguire and striker Richard Cresswell were enough to clinch three points for the visitors although it was the home side that started the better of the two.

Reuben Reid tested Blades goalkeeper Steve Simonsen with a shot from just outside of the box, but the ex-Stoke keeper made a good save.

In the 20th minute, the keeper was called on again to stop Mathieu Smith's close-range header. And then Jean Yves Mvoto headed just wide of the post from a Matthew Lund corner.

In the second half, things started to go wrong for the Latics, just three minutes after the restart the travelling army of red and white were celebrating when a corner from Quinn found youngster Maguire who headed home confidently past Cisak, giving the keeper no chance.

And the second goal must go down to some woeful defending by the home side, Quinn again had as much space as he needed down the left and he crossed for Cresswell to find the net from just six yards.

After that it was a case of not being able to cut out chances that let Oldham down.
