Oldham 2-2 Barnsley
Oldham allowed a two-nil lead to slip in Tuesday nights Johnstone's Paint Trophy meeting with Barnsley but we still managed to advance in the end following a penalty shootout win at Boundary Park.
Midway through the first half Joseph Mills crossed into Dominic Poleon (22) and the former Leeds United man made no mistake as he finished from close range as the flag stayed down, despite the appeals from the visitors that he was offside.
A Sam Winnall cross ended up hitting the post as Barnsley threatened to level before Danny Philliskirk (44) finished off Connor Wilkinson's pass to make it two a minute ahead of the break.
The game would have been out of Barnsley's reach had Barnsley 'keeper Ross Turnbull not made a couple of great saves after the break with Barnsley then coming back into the game when Luke Berry (53) scored.
A goal from nothing, at the death, from Winnall (90) stunned the home crowd as Barnsley levelled up at two-two to force a penalty shootout.
Winnall wasn't so successful in the shootout as he and Kane Hemmings both missed to leave Rhys Turner to convert and give us a 4-2 win and book us a place in the next round, with our opponents known on Saturday when the draw is made.
